Sensex, Nifty continue to struggle; Infosys drags 3%

http://www.researchvia.com/nifty-futures/

The market is struggling with the Nifty holding 8100 mark. The 50-shar index is down 30.95 points or 0.4 percent at 8112.65. The Sensex is down 111.72 points or 0.4 percent at 26792.39. About 1183 shares have advanced, 889 shares declined, and 102 shares are unchanged.
Bajaj Auto, Lupin, Coal India, Wipro and BHEL are top gainers while Hindalco, Vedanta, ONGC, Tata Steel and Infosys are major losers in the Sensex.

Gold steadied near a three-month high, as investors pushed back expectations of a Federal Reserve interest rate hike to next year and on a weaker dollar. The Fed was expected to raise US rates for the first time in nearly a decade this year, but recent weak US data, concerns over Chinese growth and volatility in financial markets have prompted markets to shift rate hike views to early 2016.

The US central bank refrained from hiking rates at its last meeting in September. It holds two more policy meets in 2015: on Oct. 27-28, and then in December. Higher rates could dent demand for non-interest-paying bullion, while boosting the dollar.

Sensex, Nifty, Midcap under pressure; bank, oil stocks drag

The Indian equity market is down in early trade on the back of a weak handover from US and China. Both the indices are down 1 percent but this is just the market getting hyper, says Samir Arora of Helios Capital.

The market remained under pressure in morning trade with the Sensex falling 370.51 points or 1.44 percent to 25349.07, dragged by banking & financials, auto, oil, capital goods and FMCG stocks. The Nifty continued to hover around 7700, down 118.45 points or 1.51 percent to 7700.15.

The broader markets, too, plunged 1.5 percent as about 1370 shares have declined against 355 shares advanced on the Bombay Stock Exchange.

At the moment, 7500 looks like the Nifty bottom, though one does not know how market will behave in the face of volatility, says market expert Ambareesh Baliga.

At the same time if one sees to 15 percent gains during a bounce, one must book out, says Baliga. "Then sit on cash until there is a crack again." He expects the bull run to be steady after 2-3 months depending on Fed statement.

Auto sales: Maruti Suzuki, the country's largest car maker, has sold 1,17,864 vehicles in August, a growth of 6.4 percent over a year-ago period driven by Ciaz, S-Cross and Alto Automatic but impacted by big fall in compact car sales and lower exports. Overall sales growth was much lower than expected as Nomura estimated 9.2 percent growth year-on-year at 1.21 lakh units. Domestic sales in August grew by 8.6 percent to 1.06 lakh units whereas export declined 11.1 percent to 11,083 units compared to same month last year.

The market continues to be under pressure mostly dragged by banks. The Sensex is down 189.30 points or 0.7 percent at 26093.79 and the Nifty slips 59.30 points or 0.7 percent at 7912. About 666 shares have advanced, 1427 shares declined, and 67 shares are unchanged.

Sensex is down 10.32 points at 27821.22 and the Nifty is up

It is a quite start to trade as global markets see sharp cuts. The Sensex is down 10.32 points at 27821.22 and the Nifty is up 0.75 points at 8467.30. About 359 shares have advanced, 207 shares declined, and 34 shares are unchanged. ONGC, Hero, SBI, Tata Steel and Coal India are major laggards while Dr Reddy's Labs, Cipla, Wipro, Infosys and Sun Pharma are top gainers in the Sensex. The Indian rupee has touched a fresh two-year low in early trade. It has opened lower by 10 paise at 65.40 per dollar against Monday's closing value of 65.32 a dollar. The currency market was shut on Tuesday. Ashutosh Raina of HDFC Bank said, "The impact of the Chinese Yuan depreciation is still being felt across global markets. The USD-INR currency pair has been no exception with the pair finally breaching the psychological 65/dollar figure tracking other Asian peers." The dollar rose, getting a lift from data showing US housing starts neared an eight-year peak, which raised expectations that the Fed will raise interest rates as soon as next month. China stocks continued their sell-off following a whopping 6 percent plunge in the previous session, underscoring that it won't be an easy return to good times for the country's equity market. The market plunge yesterday was attributed to traders cutting back on expectations of more stimulus for the economy - on the back of better housing market data – and support for the stock market – after the China Securities Finance Corporation said it would not intervene further in the market unless there was unusual volatility and systemic risk. Tumble in Chinese shares and weak earnings from Walmart pressured US stocks and copper prices saw six year lows. Investors will look to US inflation data and minutes of last month's Federal Reserve monetary policy meeting on Wednesday, as they seek for further clues as to when the Fed will begin raising interest rates. Oil prices fell again after a brief rise in the previous session, as the United States enters the lower demand autumn season and Asia's leading economies slow down.

Nifty struggles below 8500; Midcap, Smallcap outperform

Oil prices resumed their decline in Asia as a global glut of crude supplies showed no signs of abating in the face of sluggish demand, analysts said. US benchmark West Texas Intermediate (WTI) for September delivery fell 63 cents to USD 41.87 a barrel in late-morning trade, the lowest since March 2009. Brent crude for October, a new contract, was down 65 cents to USD 48.54. WTI and Brent's September contract rose in New York on Friday after closing at their lowest level in six and a half years in the prior session. But oil came under renewed pressure in Asia after the latest data showing the number of rigs drilling for US oil increased last week, the sixth rise in seven weeks, analysts said. The news added to fears of a prolonged global surplus as output from the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries and the US remains robust despite the tumbling prices. 10:00 am Market Check The market remained under pressure in morning trade, dragged by profit booking in private banking & financials, technology and oil stocks. However, the broader markets outperformed benchmarks, trading flat. Cipla topped the selling list, falling 4 percent on fears that Esomeprazole sales may slow down from Q2FY16 onwards.
